Our Values
Community Entry and Buy-In
We believe in a community entry and invitation based approach, which includes Chiefs and Queen Mothers, Healthcare and Education Ministers, nurses, teachers, elders, parents, and boys and girls alike.
When a community invests in supporting the health and well-being of their daughters, and shows their interest in prioritizing a young girls’ Right to Education (Article 26, UDHR, 1948), everyone benefits.
Our organization's guiding principles:
Menstrual Health Education and Research
We believe in working hand-in-hand with on-the-ground healthcare and educational specialists from each community, and tailor our programming to adequately address the needs of each given community.
We use data collection (surveys and interviews) to continue to refine our programming and measure the developing needs of a community, as well as the social impact our programming and products have.
Infrastructure and Economic Development
WASH facilities (plumbing infrastructure)
Vocational Training (training centres) - developing the means of creating reusable menstrual pads and selling them to the broader market
Educational infrastructure - computer labs, robotics centres and libraries
Environmentally Sustainable Solutions
We disseminate free menstrual material; either the BFree Menstrual Cup (11 year life span) or the Real Relief reusable pads (lasts for 400 uses) which saves a household from having to spend significant portions of their monthly income on imported single-use menstrual pads (which have to be thrown away after 1 use).
We believe in solutions that are adaptable to water-scarce environments, with the priority of offering products that can be adaptable to any climate or environment.
Long-Term Educational Support
We believe in ongoing support, as the world continues to research menstrual health management. We believe in long-term collaboration with the communities we work alongside.
Once we establish a relationship with a community, we believe in continuous collaboration, which means we return periodically to deliver programming as girls continue to age into their menses.
